Highways Heroes Awards

On Thursday 30th November, CR Civil Engineering attended the Highways Heroes Awards, in London. Nicholas Thomas, our Ganger on the M40/42, has won a Highways Hero award, recognising and awarding his heroic actions for coping admirably in the face of adversity.

In the early hours of Saturday 17th September 2022, Nicholas was driving home after a night shift on the M40/42 SMP scheme, when he witnessed a man lying face down on the carriageway.  Nick used his initiative and put on his hazards and beacons, blocking off the road to protect the casualty. Nick administered emergency first aid and applied pressure to a head injury to suppress the bleeding until the emergency services arrived. He then had to keep those present who were heavily intoxicated calm, while dealing with aggressive behaviour from road users trying to push their way through the scene, which he handled respectfully.

A big thank you to Mathew Jones, Ruth, Rhianwen and Alan Swann along with the rest of the bmJV team for nominating Nick for this deserving award.
